Curious about porcelain veneers? Your top 5 questions answered by Kooringal Dental

Are you one of the many people who wish that their teeth were whiter in colour? Or do you have some minor gaps between your teeth that you want to get rid of?

In 2021, there is an answer or solution to both of these problems and more, in the form of porcelain veneers. Affixed to the front of your teeth, veneers are one of the simplest and most versatile cosmetic options that we offer.

When you come to Kooringal Dental to have your aesthetic needs fixed using veneers in Wagga (or laminates), we will be able to answer any queries that you may have about the procedure, the aftercare and how to prolong the procedure. We will also colour match the laminates to your natural shade or, should you prefer, we can whiten your teeth to Hollywood level, giving you a striking smile!

Have some questions about veneers in Wagga? Our team at Kooringal answers the 5 most common questions below. Enjoy!

Do laminates ruin your teeth?

No, they don’t but we can understand where the confusion around this came from.

When you come to have your veneers in Wagga fitted, we will simply roughen the outer area of the tooth and then place dental cement over it to adhere to the laminate.

The roughening of the tooth is important, as it allows the cement to stick to something and will prolong the life of the laminate.

Does having them fitted hurt?

No, the fitting of a laminate should not cause any discomfort.

Our team will gently sand the front of the teeth where the laminates are to be fitted, place some dental cement and then place the laminate over the top. Depending on how many you are having fitted, the process may take up to 2 hours.

But there are no numbing gels required and certainly, no local anaesthetic needed!

How do they differ from bonding?

Laminates differ from bonding because they are made in a dental laboratory with the help of some specialised dental equipment. Bonding occurs when a dentist places composite directly onto the tooth and shapes it using a set of drills and filing equipment.

The dental laminates we use at Kooringal Dental are typically made from porcelain, whereas bonding uses composite materials. And despite what you may think about porcelain (such as its brittle) it is surprisingly robust when it is used as the material for dental laminates. It is also stain resistant!

Are they expensive?

They can seem expensive but many dental surgeries (including ours) can offer you a payment or financing plan to help you to spread the cost into affordable monthly instalments.

How long do they last?

Provided that you take good care of your teeth and laminates (such as twice-daily brushing, flossing and attending dental check-ups), then your new additions to your smile can last for up to 20 years and more.

Of course, if you feel that a laminate is coming loose, don’t hesitate to contact our team at Kooringal Dental.
