Air polishing, AIRFLOW and cleaning; a guide from our dentist Wagga

If you want to have your teeth cleaned by a dental team, it can be confusing to know what procedures and technologies are available.

Many people associate having a dental clean with a scale and polish, but this is a treatment typically reserved for hygienists who wish to prevent gum disease. Luckily, when you come to our team at Kooringal Dental, we can offer you a spa based dental experience, revolving around air polishing and our AIRFLOW cleaning system.

At Kooringal Dental, we are happy to offer our patients a more luxurious dental experience, and, when our dentist Wagga provides you with a deep clean using the AIRFLOW system, you will be surprised at how clean and white your smile will look. Great!

Never heard of AIRFLOW and want to learn more about air polishing? Here, our dentist Wagga offers a brief introductory guide to AIRFLOW, spa therapy and air polishing that we can offer at Kooringal Dental.

What is air polishing?

Although the treatment is called air polishing, there is a bit more to it than that!

When our dentist Wagga uses AIRFLOW to clean teeth, it is a combination of air, water and powder that is aimed at your teeth to remove everything from plaque to extensive and deep stains.

Advantages of using AIRFLOW

Many patients have concerns that, by using an air polisher, the result will be lessened and there may be more discomfort.

However, when we use AIRFLOW as part of our spa therapy, we can offer fast and efficient cleaning without any of the unpleasant noise that may come from standard equipment.

It can also be used to clean the teeth of patients who have sensitivity issues and reach areas that would otherwise be difficult to access!

Who can have it?

There are very few restrictions when it comes to having your teeth air polished.

As it does not involve the use of tools, we can use this treatment to whiten and clean the teeth of patients who wear braces or have sensitive teeth, dental implants or even gum disease! As there is no real force applied to the teeth or gums, it will not aggravate any periodontal disease that you have and will help keep any irritation to a minimum.

It is even suitable for use on our younger patients!

Side effects

As with most dental treatments, there is the potential for side effects when you undertake air polishing treatment.

There could be some damage to the gums and any existing dental work, such as filling, veneers or crowns. Furthermore, there is also a chance that we may not reach the desired effect you want for your teeth due to extensive staining.

Should this happen, we will discuss further options with you.
